Bizarre, bonkers and not quite on the wall – the Bush Beano charity evening at the LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair in Berkeley Square on September 28 was refreshingly different for an antiques fair.
The night was organised by and in aid of the Bush Theatre in London's Shepherd's Bush, with theatrical sketches popping up around the show created and performed by actors from the theatre and devised around the theme of antiques (although to be honest, the link wasn't always easy to grasp).
LAPADA had been kept rather in the dark as to what was planned and there were strange rumours flying around the fair before about what would happen - a fruit fight was one of the more sensational.
More than 800 guests attended the drinks reception and there were 250 for a dinner cooked by Mark Hix, and guests included Sheridan Smith, Christopher Hampton and Saffron Aldridge.
Dinner was followed by a charity auction which, together with other activities, raised over £550,000 and included prizes such as weekends in Venice, the Greek Islands and Mozambique. One woman bid £23,000 for a publishing deal with Harper Collins.
