It was taken some time between June 15 and 19 by what appears to be an opportunist, walk-in thief, who also took three peices of silver made by the Guild of Handicraft in Chipping Campden.
The intaglio dates from the 3rd-7th century AD and bears the image of the Roman (Capitoline) wolf and twins Romulus and Remus.
It is significant in representing this in an Iranian context, with a middle Persian inscription surrounding the image.
