JUBILEE Antiques & Art Auction will become the first Chinese auction house to conduct sales in the West when they hold an auction of Asian works of art at the Bloomsbury Hotel on May 12.

Timed to coincide with the influx of international buyers for London's Asian Art Week, the sale is expected to include around 600 lots from consignors in the USA, China, Hong Kong, UK and continental Europe.

The new firm, based at 53 South Molton Street, but backed by Chinese entrepreneurs, told ATG  they hope to unite the best practice of the UK auctioneers with their know-how of business in the Far East.

Their desire to sell in London reflects the preference of mainland Chinese collectors for objects sourced in the West where provenance helps protect against fakes.

Other mainland Chinese auction houses such as Poly and Guardian have representatives in the UK and New York but their aim is to source goods for sale in Beijing.
