The eight large contemporary works will go under the hammer at statuary specialists Summers Place Auctions of Sussex (in association with Sotheby's) on October 23.

Highlights include a large bronze gorilla by wildlife sculptor David Cooke (b.1970) estimated at £6000-10,000. The 5ft 11in (1.80m) silverback proved a favourite among athletes such as diver Tom Daley and tennis player Maria Sharapova, who posed for pictures posted on Twitter beside the sculpture.

Wilfred Pritchard's (b.1970) Backflip, a 10ft 10in (3.30m) high bronze of a skeleton on a gymnast's horse situated outside the Cuban residence at the athletes village, is estimated at £15,000-20,000, and a giant Galapagos tortoise, one of an edition of nine, at £10,000-15,000.
