The arrest came following an alert from staff at ceramics dealer Brian Haughton’s gallery in Duke Street, who identified the suspect after reading the page 3 news report issuing a warning in last week’s ATG.
The report told how a man using the name Giovanni Mellone had been targeting dealers over the past two months.
The suspect entered the Duke Street premises early last week and, after those at the gallery had read the story and realised who he was, they contacted police when he returned later that day.
Officers arrived on the scene within 15 minutes.
