The total is just one of the statistics to emerge from our latest reader survey, sent out with issue No 1950 at the end of July. So far we have had more than 1200 replies, and they are still coming in.

A quarter of all copies are read by three or more people, with an average 2.2 people reading every copy of ATG.

Just over half (52%) of readers are dealers, with (51%) also describing themselves as collectors – the overlap comes from collectors who also deal.

The table below sets out where their interests lie, with ceramics and glass topping the list as being of interest to 44% of the readership. Interestingly, Contemporary art is the concern of more than 10%, on a par with antiquities.

Respondents also revealed that they make two thirds of their purchases at auction, with 37% of readers attending an auction every week and a further 34% attending one at least once a month.

Just over 20% of readers spend more than £50,000 a year on art and antiques, while 50% spend more than £10,000.

We would like to thank everyone who responded to the survey as your views are instrumental in helping us bring you a better and more useful read each week.
