The Saint Laurent sale will be the first to be held in the Grand Palais. The lifting of restrictions on the use of this landmark exhibition space is also opening the door to the future expansion of the French capital’s top fair, the Biennale.

Further reform of the still restrictive French auction legislation is imminent and has Presidential backing, while Sotheby’s are showing increasing confidence in Paris as an auction centre and auctioneers in the city are continuing to merge to gain greater competitive advantage.

In the meantime the French auctioneers’ association SYMEV's continues to promote auction going to the general public and will be staging its 4th Annual Auction Weekend on March 28-29 with events across its membership, headlined at Drouot-Montaigne in Paris, with a sense of adventure rare in these difficult times, by a sale of Romanian contemporary paintings.

A preview of upcoming events in Paris appears in this week’s ATG printed newspaper. To subscribe, click here.
