The liveried Austin A40 Dinky that sold for £6400 at Wallis & Wallis.
According to the 9th edition of John Ramsay's catalogue of Dinky toys, published in 2001, this particular van was never made. He states: "1954 Factory drawing exists but not issued."
Bidding on the van was solely from private collectors, and Wallis & Wallis specialist Glenn Butler was pleased with the outcome - before the sale he had been unsure of how bidders would react to such an anomaly and put a rough guide of £2000-4000 on the van.
The buyers premium was 17.62 per cent.
