It was Moorcroft’s take on flambé glazes that produced the highest price at Bonhams’ latest Ceramic Design sale.

Moorcroft Flambé Carp vase – £16,000 at Bonhams.

No directly comparable version of this 12in (31cm) high double-gourd Carp design, by William Moorcroft, signed, date stamped for 1914 and with maker's mark, has yet surfaced on the market, although the Harriman Judd collection featured a similar green and blue version that fetched $15,000 (£10,200 ) at Sotheby's in 2001.

Collector and dealer interest took Bonhams' vase to £16,000.
