A deal, formally announced by both companies back in May 2007, had effectively seen Lawrences of Crewkerne acquire the Taunton auction operation from Greenslade Taylor Hunt, one of the South West’s leading estate agents.

However, last week Graham Ford, partner of GTH, told ATG the arrangement was “not working out for both parties” and said the fine art division would return to the GTH umbrella much as before.

Following the sale of their former saleroom Magdelane House, the auction house will return to its roots by re-establishing the Priory Saleroom in Winchester Street. They will move there after their July 24 sale that will be held at the Old Taunton Market site.

Long-time employee Stuart Triggol has been appointed to head up the division aided by Keith Amor who will continue as a consultant. The next West Country Sporting Sale will be in October.
