Their overall turnover for 2007 was $308m (£155m), up from $137.5m (£76m) in 2006.

As well as seeing strong growth in their auctions of contemporary art, design and photography in London and New York, their jewellery sales in Geneva and private treaty sales also contributed to the increased turnover.

By shadowing Sotheby’s and Christie’s London sales calendar for contemporary art, Phillips de Pury’s turnover from the capital was £70.5m, up from £8.6m in 2006.

In March 2008 they will be opening their new saleroom in Howick Place, London, which will be headquarters of their European operation.

They will also be launching the Saturday@Phillips sales in London with the first on March 15.

These auctions of contemporary art, design and photographs, offered with estimates starting as low as £500 and rising to £20,000, have been held in New York four times a year.

This year, two each will be held in London and New York, before they become quarterly events in both locations in 2009.
