Staffordshire auctioneers Cuttlestones have announced that they will not be selling any lots consigned by troubled West Midlands auctioneers Walker Barnett & Hill until further notice.
In recent weeks, Cuttlestones have received a number of mixed-lot consignments from the Walker Barnett & Hill proprietor Chris Sidebotham, some of which have already been sold in good faith in a number of Wednesday house clearance sales at Cuttlestones’ Penkridge auction rooms.
But following a dispute over ownership of some of the items, with claims that some may have been previously sold by Walker Barnett & Hill and not collected by buyers, Cuttlestones have decided to withdraw all remaining items consigned by the auctioneers from sale until their ownership can be clarified.
Last month, ATG reported that Trading Standards had received a number of complaints from unpaid consignors in the wake of the fine art sale held by Walker Barnett & Hill in June. Mr Sidebotham denied any vendor difficulties and dismissed rumours that their Cosford auction rooms were to close.
Walker Barnet & Hill have since placed an announcement on their website stating that no further sales will be held at the Cosford Auction Rooms, due to the expiry of the lease on the property.
Cuttlestones are willing to assist any concerned buyers or vendors in any way they can.
