The business, that in due course will be renamed Sussex Auction Galleries, will be based at Scarborough Fine Art’s current premises at Unit 2, Grange Industrial Estate, Southwick with the first sale scheduled for September 5-6.

The closure of the Worthing Auction Galleries follows the retirement of partner Richard Rood. Nick Hall now moves to Hove with his secretary Fran Flack and head porter Chris Ongley to work alongside managing director Andrew Scarborough. The official change of name is not expected to take place until 2008.

Both the new owners are confident that the merger will also provide a much larger and more varied selection of privately sourced items for their auctions which are to be held every six weeks, whilst keeping overheads down.

The first sale includes John Bratby’s (1928-92) submission to the 1989 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, a Venetian scene titled Good Hedonism On Rialto/Red Tables & Senoras, Rialto Hotel.
