The sale is being handled by BCMS Corporate and the gallery is on the market complete with its established name, a ten-year lease on 1100 sq feet in Ryder Street, SW1, Mr Nahum’s high quality stock, website, a photographic archive, reference library and extensive client and contact database.

The Leicester Galleries were founded in Leicester Square by Wilfred and Cecil Philips and was considered the most important avant-garde British gallery of the first half of the 20th century, staging over 1400 exhibitions by such names as Burne-Jones, Augustus John, Cézanne, Picasso and Van Gogh.

It ceased trading in 1977 and in 1986 Peter Nahum acquired the name and rebuilt the Leicester Galleries brand.

After 40 years in the business Mr Nahum told ATG he is taking a break and pursuing other interests, especially photography.
