Le Fur has reportedly felt under-used in a firm best known for sales with a 20th century theme. Responsibility for 18th century sales will be taken on by François Tajan, who joined the firm as co-chairman with Francis Briest in 2005.
Le Fur is considered one of the most accomplished auctioneers in Paris, and was hired by Enchères Rive Gauche to direct the landmark sale of the Vérité tribal art collection last June. His next destination has yet to be announced. François Curiel, head of Christie’s France, has declined to comment on rumours that he will be joining Christie’s.
Le Fur quits ArtCurial
Founding partner Rémy Le Fur has left ArtCurial, where he was in charge of sales of furniture and objets d’art, and notably secured the prestigious Rossignol Collection, the most important furniture sale in Paris during the 2005-06 season.
