Mr Laney began his career as a trainee auctioneer and valuer at Arthur G. Griffiths and Son of Worcester in 1956 and started his own business in late 1964. From August 1, he will take up a consultancy appointment with Doorbars of Worcester (with whom he may hold some sales in the future) while the Malvern Auction Centre (open until the end of August) will be sold for redevelopment.

After more than 50 years in the business, Worcestershire auctioneer Philip Laney is to close his firm and take up a consultancy post with chartered surveyors and land agents Doorbars.
