After 13 years at Edinburgh rivals Shapes, Richard Longwill has crossed over to Broughton Place where he will be responsible for local valuations and business development. He brings with him the contacts that in recent years have seen Shapes punching above their weight, selling both a Lavery society portrait (£210,000 in March 2005) and one of Jack Vettriano’s best-known paintings, Dance Me to the End of Love, (£290,000 in March this year). He told ATG he had long admired Lyon & Turnbull’s creative and innovative approach and their ambitions to rank high among the leading fine art auctioneers in the country. “I felt it was time for a new challenge and to play on a bigger stage,” he said.

Lyon & Turnbull’s new furniture specialist is Julian Bly, son of the well-known dealer and television personality John. Julian Bly, 35, will continue to run both his successful interior design business and a contemporary gallery close to the family furniture business in Tring and will be based in Hertfordshire. Lyon & Turnbull’s ambitions were made clear last Tuesday when they hosted a champagne reception at their new third-floor space at 11-12 Pall Mall. They will use it to accept consignments, and for meetings, viewings and entertaining.
