The first King Street sale of Old Master and British Pictures will be held in April 2007 and will feature British art from 1500 to the early 19th century alongside Old Masters.

Catalogues of Important British Pictures have become increasingly thin in recent years and Christie’s say combining the two disciplines presents an opportunity to market British pictures to an international audience.

Combined sales of Old Masters and British Pictures already operate in New York – where a record $32m (£19.2m) was set in the spring for Giudecca, La Donna della Salute and San Giorgio by J.M.W. Turner.
