Mr Weston, who owned and ran Phillips before selling to 3i, has put up £1000 each for two annual bursaries at the institute, totalling £10,000 over the period.

They will be known as the Christopher Weston/SOFAA bursaries and are designed to encourage excellence and to provide finance for students who are under increasing financial pressures to complete their studies.

They will be awarded on merit to one second year and one third year full-time student from the Fine Arts Valuation course.

The recipients for the academic year starting in October are Sharon Hall (Year 2) and Megan Jane Henry (Year 3).
