The 9 3/4in (24.5cm) high vase was bought by the vendors at auction about 40 years ago for just under £100. At the time it was missing a portion of its distinctive spire finial but the new owners were able to have it restored to its former glory with the help of Henry Sandon who - then curator of the Dyson Perrins Museum - could provide an original sepia photograph stamped with the model number 871 showing just what the finial should have looked like.

The last Owen vase the Glasgow saleroom had of this size was sold three to four years ago for £17,000, although this one was more modestly guided at £5000-8000. It was purchased for £14,000 (plus 15 per cent buyer's premium) by a collector from Australia.
