The rooms, in Barnham near Bognor Regis in West Sussex, had been the venue for local auctions for more than 20 years when the business closed just before Christmas. Long-term roadworks just outside had rendered the existing rooms no longer viable.
In mid December, Andrew Cottrell, a freelance auctioneer with 35 years experience in the UK and abroad, took over the rooms and set about readying them for sales in January. Two weeks into the new year he held a clearance sale, while putting together 400 lots for a fine art and antiques sale on January 19, with the help of contacts and friends, including Rob Shaw, an antiques dealer originally from Cardiff.
Mr Cottrell plans a general sale on every last Saturday of the month with a fine art and antiques sale mid-month. Sale times are 10.30am and viewings will take place between 10am and 8pm the day before the sale and on the morning of the sale itself.
