Seeing the astronomical prices Vettriano's paintings have recently been fetching at auction, one or two buyers at that 1992 show are now understandably keen to cash in on their investment. This signed 11 1/2 x 9 1/2in (29 x 24cm) canvas, Summer Love, right, was bought from Corrymella Scott in 1992 for what was then regarded by many as a fairly stiff price, in the region of £1200. It reappeared on local soil on the first day of Anderson & Garland's (15% buyer's premium) September 28-30 sale in Newcastle with an estimate of £25,000-45,000.

Undeterred by this hefty valuation for what was, self-evidently, a relatively small and minor work, a trio of private collectors pushed the bidding up to £26,000, far and away the top price of the sale.

The success of this painting has already coaxed another Corrymella Scott-provenanced Vetrriano out of the local woodwork and this will be included in Anderson & Garland's next picture sale.
