Most of these entries went at under £100, with the best price among the ceramics coming for a 19th century Rockingham seated dog. The selling point of the 2 1/2in (6cm) pooch, with naturalistically painted face and puce beaded collar, appeared to be its breed, a pug, and it sold at £440.
Other collectables included a 19th century walnut tea caddy inlaid with boxwood, satinwood and ebonised hatched stringing, with a Sheraton-style shell panel to its lid, which took £520, and a 12in (30cm) tall 19th century Parian ware bust of Nelson which realised £800.
Topping the furniture was a set of six Jacobean-style oak dining chairs from the late 17th or early 18th century which sold at £2600.
Rockingham pug is best of breed for collectors
KEYS (10% buyer's premium) of Aylsham maintain the format of mammoth offerings – 1556 lots offered over two days (April 20-21) in this case – and, although only 60 per cent of them got away, there was plenty of material for budget-conscious collectors of such favourites as Royal Doulton character jugs and figures as well as Beswick Beatrix Potter and animal models.
