Foremost was an early Banff Hanoverian pattern tablespoon by the highly regarded silversmith Alexander Shirras, c.1755.
Of heavy gauge, it was engraved with betrothal initials G.MG and in mint condition. It fetched £1850.
An English collector went to £1050 for an early marrow scoop by Dundee maker Alexander Johnston, c.1740, and a collectable fiddle pattern Wick tablespoon by John Sellar, c1825, realised £1400.
Later in the week on April 3 at the auctioneers’ own Edinburgh rooms, a collection of Black Forest material was the main talking point.
It was led by a piano stool carved with a seated bear base and American interest helped this to a winning £2200.
