The so-called Rudd's table is an ingenious late 18th century design that appears in George Hepplewhite's The Cabinet Maker and Upholsterers' Guide. Hepplewhite considered it the most complete dressing table ever made.
He described Rudd simply as 'a once popular character' but his name lives on through the Reflecting Dressing Table (as it is also known) that allows the sitter to see him or herself from any angle. A kneehole table when closed, drawers open and swing out to reveal a series of dressing compartments and two upright mirrors.
