At Sotheby's on July 8, another "near fine" copy, valued at £10,000-15,000, reached £8750.

There was a second, more bumped and frayed copy (with a card signed by J.K. Rowling loosely inserted) at Sotheby's - this time part of a set of all five books in the series that brought a bid of £15,000.

Christie's South Kensington had a set of the first four books in their June 8 sale, but though the ...Philosopher's Stone was described as "exceptionally fine" and the other three as mint, and all four were signed by the author, it was unsold on an estimate of £15,000-20,000.
