“Frederick Forsyth is one of the world’s leading contemporary storytellers,” says Adrian Harrington, chairman of the event. “He is known for his wit and urbanity as a journalist and writer, and we are delighted that he has agreed to open the book fair and be our patron this year.”

First edition thrillers, or “sensational novels” as they were known in the 19th century, are an integral part of the book fair and, no doubt, copies of Mr Forsyth’s own works will be on sale.

Some 150 top booksellers will bring a vast array of books, manuscripts, maps, atlases, prints, letters and autographs from the 15th century up to Harry Potter at prices from under £50 to £500,000.

Organised by the Antiquarian Booksellers Association, this is the largest and most prestigious fair of its kind in Europe, and all stock is vetted.
