This is not a conventional fair in the sense of dealers paying for and manning stands, but it does bring together some choice items of stock from 12 specialist dealers.

The range includes furniture from Gary de Parma, Le Style 25 and The Graham Gallery; bronzes from the Hickmet Gallery and Tony Croston; pottery from Andrew Muir and Wayne Hopkins, and posters by Printique.

Ian Osborn, the manager of the venerable Bedfordshire antiques centre, tells me that the Deco dealers just leave their pieces, then the centre’s staff do the selling and the dealers pay 10 per cent commission on sales.

It’s a neat idea and it seems to suit everybody concerned.

Certainly this novel approach worked very well first time around.
