Sotheby’s decided to shed their collectors’ department last year in favour of an arrangement whereby their former experts would set up their own companies but use Sotheby’s facilities and premises as an auction venue and for viewings with auctions to be titled “in association with Sotheby’s”.

Costume and textile specialist Kerry Taylor, now trading as Kerry Taylor Auctions LLP, holds her first sale at Olympia on June 8.

Titled Passion For Fashion, Fine Textiles and Furnishings, it will include 19th century dress from the collection of Cora Ginsburg, Fortuny textiles, a pair of King George VI’s pink silk pyjamas and stage suits worn by the late Tommy Cooper.

The next day sporting specialist Graham Budd, trading as Graham Budd Auctions, holds his first sale in association with Sotheby’s titled Sporting Memorabilia and encompassing material related to football, rugby, golf, cricket, tennis, racing, Olympics and other sports.

Highlights will include the Christine Truman collection of tennis memorabilia and cricketing items from the Brian Close collection.
