The first €10,000 CINOA Prize will be announced in September. The winner will not keep the money themselves but will choose which charity to donate it to.

Candidates for the prize may include museum curators, benefactors, authors, scholars, film makers, collectors or politicians, or anyone who in the opinion of the judges has made a major contribution to one of the main objectives of the Confederation during his or her lifetime.

This year’s shortlist includes some of the best known names linked with the arts:

Sir Timothy Clifford (Director General of the National Galleries of Scotland), Sir Harry Djanogly (Collector and benefactor), Sir Christopher Frayling (Chairman of the Arts Council), Sir Nicholas Goodison (Former chairman of the Art Fund and Government adviser on the Arts), Neil MacGregor (Director of the British Museum), Sir Christopher Ondaatje (benefactor) and Lord Rothschild (former chairman of the National Heritage Memorial Fund and benefactor).
