As the lion’s share of entries were offered without reserves, buyers were found for around 85 per cent of lots. Although there were few blockbuster entries, one of the unexpected highlights was a multiple lot of pewter estimated to fetch £40-60. Close inspection revealed that one of the pieces was a lidded flagon, possibly dated to the 17th century and bidding took off, ending at £750.
Elsewhere, a pair of 19th century pottery harlequin jugs decorated with an all-over animal decoration realised £1000, while a Victorian blue and white pottery footbath fetched £950 and a Regency mahogany bracket wall clock brought £1250.
Buyers spot a pewter prize
IT may have been the peak of the summer holiday season, but it was business as usual at Mallams (15% buyer's premium) Gloucestershire rooms when the 515-lot sale on August 19 totalled in the region of £70,000.
