The theft took place between 3 and 4pm on the afternoon of September 27, during the temporary absence of the stand’s security guard.

The display cabinet containing the gems – a 47-carat white diamond valued at €6m (£4m) and a 15.74-carat blue diamond worth some €5.5m (£3.7m) – was forced open while other members of the gang distracted Chopard staff. The display cabinet was not equipped with an automatic alarm and the theft was not discovered immediately.
