A silver plaque on the ebonised stand recorded the fact that it had been a company’s presentation gift to a valued employee in 1974 and, 30 years on, it took an above-estimate £920.
Outside of the pictures, the top price was taken for a 19th century serpentine marble-topped giltwood console table which sold at £1800.
