But he has not abandoned the Contemporary, an area he has developed in recent years at his gallery at 8 Duke Street, London SW1, and this week he opens an exhibition Uncovered, comprising new sculpture by David Williams-Ellis. The sculptures are all figurative renderings of the female figure and despite being contemporary it has been said they have the romantic power of Rodin.
The bronzes, all priced at £5800, have been given a weathered finish under the tutelage of the Bowman gallery’s restorer and it does give an attractively aged feel, as can be seen in this 201/4in (52cm) high work (from an edition of nine) with its antique opalescent green
patina. The show continues until March 21.
With regards to Rodin
ST JAMES’S sculpture dealer Robert Bowman will be on duty at Maastricht again this year, and at the top fair he will be showing the top names of 19th and 20th century bronzes, such as Rodin and Degas.
