The one-of-a-kind was reappearing for sale in these rooms for the second time in 12 months as part of a deceased estate. The price this time of £7600 (plus 15 per cent buyer’s premium) was much the same as a year ago but nevertheless preserves the creel’s status as the most expensive fishing creel ever sold at auction in the UK.

Leading the sale of vintage fishing tackle and related items held by Angling Auctions at the Chiswick Town Hall on September 27 was this pot-bellied tooled leather and brass creel made by the Yorkshire saddlers Atkinson c.1780.
