To this end he has just opened Jazzy Art Deco, two floors of showrooms in Marylebone at 34 Church Street, London NW8 8EP (Tel: 020 7724 0837), fully stocked with his speciality, British Art Deco.

For his opening he has some stylish pieces of furniture by some of the top British designers of the period, including Ray Hill, Maurice Adams and Harry and Lou Epstein.

The Marylebone shop is the culmination of 20 years of Deco dealing by 40-year-old Eccles, who has already built up a solid client list which includes Dawn French and Lenny Henry, Gary Oldman, Sade and Kim Wilde.

Eccles Jerome trained as a chef before falling in love with British Deco furniture and deciding to make his passion his profession. He started with a market stall and progressed to fairs and running a business in Paris. He became an expert in the field, even advising Sotheby’s and Christie’s.

Now with his own shop, Mr Jerome has a mission. He says: “French Art Deco furniture has been given a massive boost by this year’s hugely successful V&A exhibition. But we have unique furniture of superb quality, designed and produced here in Britain and it’s high time that our country’s Art Deco furniture was given its dues.”
