A highlight is a suite of Djinn furniture designed by Olivier Morgue in 1964, produced in a limited edition and identical to the suite used by Stanley Kubrick in his legendary movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Other work includes chairs designed by Arne Jacobsen for the Royal Hotel, Copenhagen in 1956-61 and and a group of 1960 tulip chairs by the American team Edwin and Estelle Laverne. The furniture is neatly complemented by a Seeburg 201 jukebox from 1958 and artwork by leading British pop artists Allen Jones and Joe Tilson.
From Djinn to a jukebox
INTEREST in modern design gathers apace and is reflected in the loan exhibition chosen for the first Antiques For Everyone – London fair, to be launched at Earls Court from August 14 to 17. The display showcases 1950s, ’60s and ’70s furniture and is mounted by Sevenoaks, Kent collector Michael Marks, who deals in modernist furniture as 20th Century Marks.
