Many of the 55 dealers enjoyed steady business and some, like London’s Whitford Gallery, did very well. Among their sales was a $180,000 painting by Louis Martcoussis, while Cork Street’s Waddington Gallery finished strongly selling paintings by Rauschenberg and Dubuffet as well as their trademark Barry Flanagan sculpture.
The fair was organised by International Fine Art Expositions, who at the end of this week open their Palm Beach International Art and Antiques Fair at the same venue.
Next year both events move to the nearby, newly-opened Palm Beach County Convention Center.
Florida looks flourishing
A FURTHER reason to be cheerful about the fairs scene comes from America. More than 20,000 attended Florida’s sixth annual ArtPalmBeach fair of Modern and Contemporary art, held at the International Pavilion of the Palm Beaches in the Florida resort from January 8 to 14.
