Decorated with watercolour views of British and Irish landscapes, mostly attributed to George Robertson, the blue ground and gilt service had been acquired by the vendor’s family at Christie’s clearance of Clumber House (Newcastle’s Nottinghamshire estate) in 1937.

The 44-piece service was separated into 21 lots and totalled £79,150 - the 91/2in (24cm) high ice pails selling on commission at £32,000 (plus 15 per cent buyer’s premium).
