That venerable institution’s profile is currently sky-high due to the success of the film Calendar Girls, but the organiser assures me there are no plans for the W1 ladies to strip off at her popular fairs.
The delights they offer are in the form of homemade food - “sandwiches, scones and cakes, the sort of food we offered the public when we started our fairs in this venue 25 years ago,” says Cindy.
She added: “Whoever said the King’s Road was over-cappucinoed was so right. You simply cannot get a really good homemade anything in this area so we look forward to bringing back old-fashioned teatime, such an attraction for our foreign visitors.”

VETERAN Chelsea organiser, Hove-based Cindy Mainwaring, is delighted to announce that as from this Sunday, September 28, the newly-formed Fulham branch of the Women’s Institute, universally known as the WI, will run the catering at her monthly fairs at Chelsea Old Town Hall.
