Janet Barnes, chief executive, said: “The Gallery is a true national treasure. Historically, it has always been open to York residents free of charge, now we are extending this to all visitors, wherever they are from.”
The transition to free entry coincides with the opening of Winter Sea 2002, Damien Murphy and Peter Heaton’s collaborative reaction to Paul Nash’s Winter Sea.
