New cataloguing offices and storage for forthcoming sales will allow the firm to accept consignments at any time rather than just in the post-sale windows as before.

The rooms – three quarters the length of a football pitch – which are due to open in time for Toovey’s three-day sale starting on December 11, will host additional auctions of books, toys and rugs, just some of the areas where the auctioneer says he has picked up business following the closure of departments at Sotheby’s in nearby Billingshurst.

Sales at Toovey’s have risen by 32 per cent this year covering a wide spectrum of fine art and antiques.
Facilities at the new rooms include improved display space and cafe, with a large onsite car park.

Mr Toovey explained that the new facilities would allow his firm to expand their activities, including specialisms, size of sales and range of services. He is already working on a programme of lectures and valuation days for 2003.
