The move comes after the Boston gallery underwent a major expansion. That expansion, along with a revamping of the Website, is placing Skinner in a better position to go after a higher calibre of merchandise and clientele.

The firm will retain their Bolton gallery, but from now on the high-profile auctions will be held in Boston. Lower end auctions such as the Discovery Day sales and the studio painting offerings will still be held in Bolton. That town will also be home to many of the firm’s administrative offices. But American and European paintings and prints, jewellery and the firm’s famous Americana sales will all go through the Boston galleries.

Catherine Riedel, director of marketing, said that the firm were still not sure when the Americana department would move to Boston, but it would probably be in June or July. The expansion at the Boston facility means that two auctions can be previewed at once.
