There was a more up-beat atmosphere than for some time with a number of guests in seeming buying mood and a feeling of cautious optimism among exhibitors.

Some furniture sold and there was serious American interest in one of the major pieces. More than one exhibitor was of the opinion that times have been so tough they must get better, and now just might be the time business takes such a turn.

Chelsea is the first major quality fair of the autumn season in London and this hint of increasing sales in the capital follows a number of provincial events faring better than expected.
