The face-lift is the owner’s way of celebrating his 25 years of trading from the store and he has contracted local artists to conjure up a flavour of the original Edwardian magic lantern palace.
“We wanted to reflect the changing times in the antiques business” says Martin. ‘‘Antique shops, however large, must delight and surprise their customers not just with the variety of stock but also the environment in which it is displayed.
“Many of the original old cinema features can still be seen around the building so it makes sense to use them to enhance our style of trading.”
The work will continue for quite a few more weeks.

WEST London’s The Old Cinema in Chiswick, billed by its owner Martin Hanness as the capital’s only antiques department store, is undergoing a major makeover not far off a century after it was opened in 1910.
