Resource, the Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries, are to appoint a consultant to advise the museums on how to go about the work.

The project, which has already uncovered more than 600 works whose whereabouts during the Second World War was unclear in national museums, will see regional museums conduct similar research.

The consultant will help them identify items with unknown provenances for the years 1939-45 which may be the subject of potential claims by relatives of looting victims. Further advice will be given on documenting these works, registering them and on how to deal sensitively with claims and inquiries.
