With a degree from London University, he has spent his career in management and commerce and has been managing director of a manufacturing company since 1991.
He brings experience in lobbying and legislative matters to his new role, together with his knowledge of finance and business management.
Mr Newgas also has a keen interest in antique glass and collects clocks.
