It is carved from English lime, the favoured wood of 17th century carver Grinling Gibbons, and having been originally conceived as a breakfast table Mr Makepeace feels his design is now a sculptural expression combining function and wit.
And these two attributes are to the fore with the Makepeace team’s latest commission, to design a collection of “landscape furniture” for a client’s wooded garden in California.
John Makepeace is also working on restoring one of Beaminster, Dorset’s most historic town houses where an architecturally designed studio and furniture workshop should be completed by the end of the year.
I-i-i-i-i-i like it very much!
BRITAIN’s leading furniture maker and designer John Makepeace calls this exotic and exquisitely crafted one-off piece of furniture English Fruits, and the circular table will be the centrepiece of a special Makepeace feature at the entrance of the Daily Telegraph/House and Garden Fair at Olympia from June 27 to 30.
