But the fair, which runs at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair’s Park Lane until June 18, has changed a bit recently and with the dropping of datelines and the bringing in of new blood, it is no longer the largely brown furniture fest it once was.

For example, the noted Surrey specialist in garden sculpture and ornament, Sweerts de Landas, has brought a new dimension to the fair and always brings a good few eye-catchers. This year they include this late 18th or early 19th century Coadestone Medici vase, 4ft 2in (1.27m) high, an antique which is as fashionable today as it was when first marketed.
