The Aesthetic style has its detractors but a c.1890 Victorian Aesthetic walnut buffet with open shelves and mirror inserts found lots of interest at Burton and made £1325.
The good patina of a Victorian burr walnut pier cabinet with gilt metal mounts also appealed to the trade who took it at £1100.
Continental and American buyers helped push up the prices in the toy section which included boxed and unboxed Dinky, Corgi, Hornby and Tri-ang toys.
Sellers included a parcel of Hornby
0-gauge items including Power Ethyl and Fyffes Banana wagons which brought £380, and a boxed mint Dinky Supertoys car carrier no.984 and trailer 985 which saw £200.
In the ceramics, a c.1880 majolica stick stand with moulded parrot design sold to an American buyer at £360 and a Shelley ‘Late Foley’ intarsio teapot in the form of Lord Kitchener also made £360 despite having restoration to the spout.

Go-ahead for August proves good aesthetic judgment
MANY auctioneers decide against holding sales in August, traditionally the quietest month of the auction calender. These Staffordshire auctioneers, Richard Winterton chose to go ahead with their monthly sales which, as so often throughout the year, was led by brown furniture.
